Description |
Object #13644 is an oil on canvas frontal portrait of Captain Edward Faris Storey. He was one of the first residents of Virginia City. While in command of troops during the first Pyramid Lake War, he was shot through the lung and died. McClellan painted Storey's portrait from drawings and pictures and sold it to Storey County which was named in his honor. He is painted as having brown/black hair, brown eyes and is dressed in a white shirt, black tie with a dark chocolate brown suit jacket. The portrait is in excellent condition with minimal damage from aging and is still in its original frame. There is minor wear on the canvas, barely visible in actual light. The original accession card lists the portrait size as 19 ¾"x 23 ¾"; warping and aging may have caused this ¼" expansion. |
