Description |
Miscellaneous "Special Work" Cards Masters for marking playing Cards. Individual illustrations are included in an Adobe PDF multimedia file in this record. Use media button to access. Card Masters are used to uniformly mark cards of a specific style. The manufactures kept records of what were called "common readers" as well as custom orders for individual customers. The markings on the Master Cards were made in a contrasting ink so the "card artist" could easily see where to place his "work". On actual cards, marks are placed in diagonal opposite positions to allow them to be read no matter how the card is dealt. Image 011 in PDF shows a good example of diagonal reflection. Additional types of card work are also included. From Hunt/Taylor archive "HM-23872-G-00040" written in pencil on lower right-hand corner of the white envelope and paper string tag. |
