Description |
Painting, Pastel. Pastel drawing by Maxwell. Portrait of a Senator Walter S. Baring facing to the viewer's right. He is wearing a black suit jacket, a white dress shirt, and a light grey tie with white swirls. He has a tan complexion and dark brown hair with wisps of white. He has a slight smile. The artist created white highlights on his face (e.g. around lips, tip of nose). The artist created the portrait in loosely drawn style, with much of the crayon marks visible. The greyish-blue background color only encompasses the man's head and fades out in an abstract manner. The rest of the paper is without drawing. The back of the canvas has a cardboard backing. On the cardboard in TC says: Accession: 048, Date: 29 November 1972, Donated: Walter S. Baring. |
