Resident of Reno, Nevada; Professor of History at the University of Nevada; executive secretary of Nevada Historical Society. Jeanne Elizabeth Wier was born in Iowa and received her early education there, later attending Stanford University before joining the faculty of the University of Nevada. As Chair of the Department of History and Political Science for most of her forty-year career, Wier also became active in the Women's Suffrage Movement and was largely instrumental in the formation of the Nevada Historical Society (NHS). From 1904 until her death in 1950, Wier served as executive secretary of the NHS, the development of which was closely tied to her other interests. The collection contains correspondence and other papers relating to Wier's work as executive secretary of the Nevada Historical Society, her position as a faculty member at the University of Nevada, personal business matters, and her involvement in the women's suffrage movement. Included are collected materials on Nevada history, archeology, and anthropology, brought together as a result of her travels in and around the state on behalf of the Nevada Historical Society.
