Letters, correspondence, business records, and papers. The famous Stokes family of New York (Anson Phelps; J. W.; J. Grahame; Caroline Phelps), capitalists and philanthropists, established several mining and transportation concerns in the Austin and Ione areas of Nevada, achieving considerable financial success for a number of years. The collection contains a large measure of correspondence and records of their companies, namely the Nevada Company, the Austin Mining Company, and the Nevada Central Railroad Company.
