Frankel, L. B. The collection consists of two ledgers and a single folder containing telegrams and financial records. The first ledger records financial transactions for the period September 1868 through July 1870. Pages 1-625 are completed, then the remainder of the pages are blank. The second ledger records financial transactions for the period February 1873 through March 1874. Pages 1-800 (the entire ledger) are completed. There are also ten Western Union telegrams, written in code, from San Francisco to L. B. Frankel, received at Virginia City: undated (2), April 1, 1880 (1), April 2, 1880 (3), April 3, 1880 (1), and April 5, 1880 (3). The financial documents relate to the Overman Silver Mining Company and consist of two checks (through the Agency of the Bank of California) and an invoice. Check #1933, dated March 26, 1895, is made out to Grant Marsh. Check #1942, dated July 18, 1895, is made out to A. Lackey(?). The invoice, dated October 31, 1895, is to Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company, and is stamped as being paid November 18, 1895. |

L. B. Frankel, born circa 1831, was a merchant and stock broker who lived in Gold Hill, Nevada. His office was on Main Street, Gold Hill, just above the Bank of California. His firm, L. B. Frankel & Co., failed December 2, 1886 for nearly $1,000,000 during the November 1886 stock panic. Frankel died in San Francisco on November 13, 1889. He was survived by a wife, son, and daughter. |
