Scope & Content |
Two letter-copy books belonging to the Carson City, Nevada, banker and businessman who served for many years as Nevada's state treasurer. One volume (1904-1906) contains private business correspondence, most of it relating to land sales and to the Nevada Amalgamated Mining, Milling and Leasing Company (Wildes was secretary of the company). The second volume (1901-1910) contains letters sent from the Carson City office of the Western Loan and Savings Company to company headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, most of which are written by local treasurer David M. Ryan, though a few are by Wildes. There are also some letters in the second volume by Wildes in his capacity as secretary-treasurer of the Ormsby County Bank, and others relating to mining stock holdings of Nevada Governor John Sparks, for whom Wildes held power of attorney. Separate letters, written to Wildes from 1904 to 1906, are from John McKane, vice president and general manager of the Tonopah Extension Mining Company, discussing the affairs of that company in which Wildes appears to be an investor; and from the Wallace H. Hopkins Company, George Wingfield, and the Nevada Amalgamated Mining, Milling and Leasing Co. to Wildes in his capacity as secretary of the latter company. Correspondents represented are David M. Ryan, John McKane, the Wallace H. Hopkins Company, and George Wingfield. |
