Scope & Content

Correspondence, business records, literary manuscripts, printed materials, and other items relating to the life, business activites, and political career of Colcord, a mining figure who served as Nevada's seventh governor from 1891 to 1895.

Most of the correspondence consists of congratulatory letters sent to Colcord on the occasion of his one-hundredth birthday in 1939. Smaller amounts pertain to his governorship (there is a group of typed copies of letters and documents labeled "Public papers while governor"), monetary issues, and his mining pursuits at Virginia City and Aurora, Nevada, Bodie, California, and elsewhere.

There is a group of documents relating to the Standard Sugar Company, a Nevada corporation of which Colcord was president and director in 1894.

Also included are congratulatory letters from prominent individuals including Franklin D. Roosevelt, Herbert C. Hoover, John W. Bricker, Darius O. Mills, and Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jr., on his one-hundredth birthday; stock certificates and other
printed materials relating to Aurora, Nevada, and Bodie, California; as well as a number of autobiographical and historical writings by Colcord.
